ServicesDuctless Mini-Splits
Ductless Mini-Splits in Colfax
A ductless mini-split warms and cools a single room or several, with no ductwork needed. We match each indoor unit to the room it serves, put it in neatly and follow up afterward to confirm it runs well and that you know how to look after it.

When a Mini-Split Is the Right Call
A mini-split connects one outdoor unit to one or more indoor heads on a wall or ceiling. The line set passes through a hole roughly three inches across, so your walls stay intact. Every head comes with its own remote, so you can keep the bedroom cool and the living room warm at the same time.
They fit best in additions, finished garages, bonus rooms above the garage, older houses heated by baseboards, and rooms that stay uncomfortable whatever the thermostat says. A mini-split is a heat pump, so current cold-climate models keep heating through a Palouse winter, and the same unit cools the room in July.
Happy with your furnace? A mini-split can handle spring, fall and the rooms that are hard to heat, with the furnace kept as backup. With our gas heating mechanical license, we can look at both systems at once and give you a straight answer on how to split the load.
What Your Installation Includes
Room-by-room sizing
Before picking head sizes, we measure every room and check its windows, insulation and sunlight. A head that's too big turns on and off constantly and leaves the air damp, so we size to what the room needs, not the largest unit.
Head and line set placement
Together we go room by room and settle where each head mounts, how the line set travels and where the outdoor unit goes. You approve the layout before any holes are drilled.
Outdoor unit on a proper stand
We mount the outdoor unit on a pad or wall bracket set above where snow piles up, with space for defrost water to run off rather than freeze into ice.
Electrical, vacuum and charge
We install the dedicated circuit, draw a deep vacuum on the lines to remove moisture and verify the refrigerant charge before the system first starts.
Cleanup and a walkthrough
We clean up the drilling dust, take the packaging with us and show you the remote, each mode and how the filters come out.
Rebate paperwork
A mini-split is a type of heat pump, so plenty of systems qualify for incentives. We help you claim Avista rebates and federal tax credits on heat pumps and give you the model numbers and install details the programs ask for.
Signs a Ductless System Would Help
One room is always off
The rest of the house feels fine, but the room above the garage or the sunroom is chilly in January and stuffy in August.
You heat with baseboards
Baseboard heaters are easy to live with but expensive to run. A mini-split moves heat rather than creating it, and it gives you cooling you didn't have before.
You are adding space
An addition, a finished basement or a converted garage needs heating and cooling, and stretching your current system to reach it would be clumsy or impossible.
Window units every summer
Every year you lug window units in and out. They block the window and keep you up at night. A wall-mounted head runs quieter and stays in place.
Arguments over the thermostat
Not everyone in the house likes the same temperature. With a head in each room, every room gets its own setting.
How the Job Goes, Start to Follow-Up
- 1
A free estimate at your home
Estimates are free on installations and replacements. We look at the rooms, the wall where the outdoor unit would go and your electrical panel, then give you a written quote before any work begins.
- 2
Install day
Most single-zone jobs finish in a day, and multi-zone systems may take two. We lay drop cloths, keep the drilling to small clean holes and seal every wall penetration.
- 3
Startup and testing
We run the system in heat and cool, check temperatures at each head and make sure the condensate drains where it should.
- 4
Showing you the care
Before we leave, we show you how to rinse the washable filters every few weeks of heavy use, keep snow and leaves clear of the outdoor unit, and what a normal defrost cycle sounds like.
- 5
We check back
A few weeks after install, we follow up to hear how it is running and answer anything that came up once you lived with it. If something needs adjusting, we come back out.
What Moves the Price of a Mini-Split
Mini-split prices vary from house to house, so we quote once we've seen yours instead of guessing. The written quote breaks out equipment and labor item by item, so you can see where every dollar goes.
- Number of zones
- A single head paired with a single outdoor unit is the most basic setup. Every extra room adds a head and more line set, and often calls for a bigger outdoor unit.
- Head style
- Heads mounted high on the wall are the usual choice and the least expensive. Ceiling cassettes and low floor units cost more but work better in some rooms.
- Distance between the units
- The least costly layout puts the indoor head on an outside wall with the outdoor unit right below it. Upstairs rooms, long runs across the siding or a route through the attic take more copper and more labor.
- Electrical work
- Plenty of electrical panels have space for another circuit. A full or older panel may need updating before the mini-split can be installed.
Mini-Split Questions We Hear Often
Something not covered here? (509) 769-3613
Will a mini-split really heat my home in winter?
Cold-climate units are designed to keep heating far below freezing, and many still give useful heat close to zero. Some homeowners keep a furnace or baseboard heat for the coldest nights. We'll tell you straight whether your house needs that.
How loud are the indoor and outdoor units?
An indoor head is about as quiet as a refrigerator, and quieter on its low setting. Outside, the unit hums like a small air conditioner. In winter you might hear a whoosh while it defrosts, which is normal, and we mention it during the walkthrough.
How much upkeep does a mini-split need?
Wash the indoor filters often, keep the outdoor unit clear and book a professional cleaning each year for the coils and drain lines. Our maintenance plans cover tune-ups, and maintenance plan members can extend their install labor coverage.
Can I get rebates on a mini-split?
Often, yes. A mini-split counts as a heat pump, and we help with Avista rebates and federal tax credits on heat pumps, from choosing a model that qualifies to collecting the paperwork. Your quote will note which eligible units suit your rooms.
What if it stops working after install?
Call and describe what it's doing, and we'll send a technician to find out why. Someone answers our repair line at any hour for urgent problems, and nights and weekends cost nothing extra, so a unit that stops on a cold evening gets looked at then, not next week.
